LifeLines Canada

Support and community for Canadians abroad.

An estimated 2.7 million Canadians live outside Canada which is nearly 1 in 10 citizens.

Living outside Canada can be exciting and fulfilling, but it can also bring unexpected challenges. While many Canadians experience opportunity and adventure, others face moments of loneliness, culture shock, personal struggles, or crisis.

Being far from family, friends, and familiar support systems can make those moments feel even heavier, and when they happen, it isn’t always clear where to turn.

LifeLines exists to help Canadians abroad find support, connection, and someone who understands.

What LifeLines Provides

LifeLines is building three ways for Canadians abroad to find help and connection.

  1. Global Crisis & Support Directory

A trusted, centralized directory of crisis and suicide hotlines around the world.

The directory helps Canadians quickly find local crisis lines, emergency services, and emotional support resources in the country where they currently live.

When you need help, you shouldn’t have to search the internet in the middle of a difficult moment.

  2. Community for Canadians Abroad

LifeLines hosts a moderated online community where Canadians living overseas can connect with others who understand the unique experience of life abroad.

Members can share experiences, ask questions, and support one another through the challenges and transitions of living far from home.

Because sometimes the most powerful support is simply knowing you’re not the only one.

  3. LifeLiners - Peer Support Volunteers

LifeLines is also building a network of compassionate Canadian volunteers called LifeLiners.

LifeLiners are trained Canadian peer supporters who offer a safe, supportive space for Canadians abroad who simply need someone to talk to.

They are not therapists or counselors. Their role is simple and human:
to listen, encourage, and remind people that they are not alone.

What LifeLines is

  • A trusted directory of crisis and suicide hotlines organized by country
  • A supportive online community for Canadians living abroad
  • A peer-support network of Canadian volunteers offering compassionate listening

What LifeLines is NOT

  • LifeLines is not therapy and does not replace professional mental health services.
  • It is also not a crisis service.
  • If you are in immediate danger or experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please contact your local emergency services or a crisis hotline in your country.

LifeLines does not provide direct crisis support. We are an independent directory created to help you find accurate, up-to-date crisis and suicide support services where you live.
